DESIGN

The design of the site has been approached from a minimalistic frame of mind. You didn't come here to look at lots of pretty pictures and wait three or four minutes for some cool Java or Shockwave animation to download. You came here for information, to find out if your high school is on the 'Net (it probably is!), to find out if you can order Christmas ornaments from a company in Nebraska (you can!).

For that very reason, you won't find the site peppered with many bells and whistles. Just enough design to make it pleasant to look at. Just enough color to add a splash of energy to the information. Just enough of everything, and hopefully not too much of anything, to make it a place you'd like to come back to.

Enjoy.

CURATOR

The man responsible for the Nebraska World Wide Web Registry is Robert A. Fulkerson. For some strange reason, he thinks Nebraska is cool enough to devote an entire website to it.

If you find something that you really don't like or perhaps something that you really do like (hopefully the latter), please don't hesitate to drop an e-mail message off to him at robert at fulkerson.com, or visit his personal web page at http://robert.fulkerson.com/ to find out what kind of stuff makes him tick (mainly his family, good music, and time to relax and enjoy the finer things of life, whatever those are).

TECH SPECS

Bill Gatus of Borg! The Registry runs on an IIS 4.0 web server using a Micorosoft Access 7.0 database and Active Server Pages.
Perl Kicks! The search engine and registration/update wizard are written in Active Server Pages using PerlScript.  It was originally written in Perl on a UNIX system with a flat file, then with a C program against the same flat file, then an attempt was made with Active Server Pages and the Access database, then Perl against the Access database, and finally a combination of Active Server Pages, PerlScript and the Access database.
Bill Gates Will Rule The World! The Registry is optimized for the Microsoft Internet Explorer family of web browsers, but should look okay in any browser.
7 UP! I can live off of endless amounts of 7 UP or Diet 7 UP.  When I'm not drinking water, I'm usually drinking 7 UP.  I'm not sure why, but it's a fact.  A case of 24 cans can, under the right conditions, be downed in under two days.  That's a 7 UP every two hours.  It's wierd.
Taco Bell! Yo Quiero Taco Bell!  Along with a strange affinity for 7 UP, I love Taco Bell.  It could be considered the unofficial fast-food sponsor of the Web Registry.  It's food that's bad for you, but it's oh-so-tasty!
smallfilmguy.jpg (1977 bytes) Movies!   Films at the AMC Oakview 24 are a constant event for me, my wife and my friends.   Gotta love the movies!

LINKING TO THE REGISTRY

If you would like to link to the Nebraska World Wide Web Registry, you have three buttons to choose from that you can place on your page.

These images are displayed below.   Select the image you would like to use and save it to your hard drive (usually, right-clicking on the image and selecting Save Image As... works).

Once you've selected an image to use, you'll need to link to the appropriate place.  If you use FrontPage or another similar web-editing package, link to the following address:

http://welcome.to/nebraska

If you insert HTML into your site manually, you'll want to use HTML similar to the following:

HTML CODE

<img src="nebraska2.jpg"></a>

SERVER HISTORY

The Registry first appeared on a Linux server at Creighton University back in 1994; the server's name was phoenix.creighton.edu and was the computer science department's first dedicated internet server.

Then, for awhile, the Registry appeared on a Solaris unix system at Novia Internetworking.

The third home for the Registry was squishy.unomaha.edu, which was an NT machine running NT Server 4.0 and IIS 3.0 and then 4.0.

The final address for the Registry is here at morpo.com/nebraska.  The current operating system for morpo.com is NT Server 4.0 running IIS 4.0.

For the last two sites (squishy and morpo.com), the redirection URL of welcome.to/nebraska has always gotten people to the Registry, and will continue to do so even if morpo.com moves to another provider.

The Web Registry now joins the Morpo family of web sites, which include:

The Morpo Review  http://morpo.com/
Manly Men's Movie Reviews http://morpo.com/movies/
Robert Fulkerson http://morpo.com/robert/

CREDITS

... thanks to Peter Lin for creating the official original logo of the Registry ...

... thanks to Mike Mizer for doing some graphical work for the Registry awhile back ...

... thanks to Joe Ducharme for the original code for the guestbook that I subsequently transmogrified three years ago into it's current incarnation ...

... and, of course, thanks always to my beautiful wife, who understands my need to do things like this.
